Lately, each day I’m presented with something new that I would have never thought to be true a few months ago, and in this episode I have Alex Ortner on to discuss one way of dealing with all of the change and uncertainty.
Do you feel the same way?!
This held true the other day when I was looking at my Secret Trend Generator software. (which you can get access to in the $0-100k course) As I was scrolling through, I noticed that face masks were trending in sales. Yea, face masks. If you are reading this 6 months from now, I really hope this sounds crazy. I can surely tell you that 6 months ago I would call you crazy if you told me face masks would show as trending.
But, these are the times we are living in and I hope that you and your family are moving forward each day.
Don't Knock It Until You Try It
You’ve probably heard me reference the Brendon Burchard mastermind that I attended a few months ago. There were so many amazing people there, including Mel Abraham, who I just had on the podcast to talk about how to financially fortify your business during these crazy times.
Well, I know there are other areas besides business that you might need help with nowadays. And, one of the biggest of them is controlling what’s going on between your ears.
With all the uncertainty out there, this is something we all need.
To help with this, I brought on someone else I met at that mastermind, Alex Ortner. Alex is the co-owner of The Tapping Solution, a company with a mission to bring “Tapping”, a simple, effective, natural healing method into the mainstream. With over 3 million people attending their summits and hundreds of thousands of downloads of their app, I’d say they are on the right track.
But, if you’re like I was, you might need a little more convincing before jumping on the Tapping bandwagon. In this interview, Alex Ortner is going to share how it can help you as an entrepreneur and mom. In particular with controlling our emotions, mindset, habits, and belief systems with all the craziness going on in the world right now.
Is Your Brain Playing Tricks?
Alex explained that you have two parts of the brain – the old and the new. The old part, the amygdala, is responsible for the “fight or flight” response that we get. Which, when walking through the wilderness surrounded by big ole’ mean creatures, was quite handy to keep us alive to see another day. See something in the bushes – run!
This worked great then, but life has evolved a bit since our ancestors were living a nomadic life. That’s why Alex Ortner says we need a way to control our thoughts. The fight or flight response just isn’t as relevant today. In fact, it’s working against a lot of us. When we want to pursue that idea or expand our business, this part of our brain throws up a red flag and tells us not to do it. Alex says that it associates these risks to the same life-threatening risks our ancestors faced. But, if you always let your brain talk you out of it, you’ll never make any progress in your business because a lot of it is scary – just not that kind of scary.
Knowing this – do you think your amygdala has been playing tricks on you and slowing down your business?
Alex Ortner Explains What Tapping Is
Well, at its core, Alex says it’s a very simple concept that has you tap on certain parts of the body to send a calming signal to the brain. Yea, I was probably thinking the same thing you are about right now, but let’s get into why this actually works.
Remember that amygdala thing I mentioned above? Well, the goal of Tapping on certain parts of the body is to get that thing under control! Whether it be the stress from what all is going on right now or some big new project for your online shop, you want your brain to make clear and rational decisions. But, if left up to your amygdala, that’ll never happen.
Alex shared a ton of background research that has been done in the past 5-10 years to validate that this is a real thing. In fact, he shared a study that showed that cortisol levels on a group doing Tapping went down 48% faster than a group doing Talk Therapy. You’ve got my attention now, Mr. Ortner.
Tapping To Get Through The Pandemic
Do you get sucked into the news of all the bad happening right now and leave with a feeling of anxiety and overwhelm? Yea, I’m right there with you.
As business owners and moms, there is something constantly getting thrown our way right now. I’d bet your kids are at home with you like mine are and just handling that can seem like enough. Then you add in all the challenges that come with running a business right now and you might seem like you want to explode.
Alex says that Tapping is a solution to help calm this noise and think clearly so you can react appropriately and move your business forward. With all noise, you need some mechanism to lean on to ensure you aren’t stressed out of your mind and anxious every minute of the day.
When done right, this might be your tool.
Alex Ortner Explains The Tapping Locations On The Body
Alex Ortner described the 9 different places that are used in the Tapping technique. He starts with the easiest to explain, which is the side of your hand. Think about if you were going to karate chop something – the part of the hand that you would envision hitting is the area – that’s location number 1.
The other 8 points are scattered around the body.
2 – Inside of eyebrow
3 – Outside of the eyes
4 – Under the eyes
5 – Under the nose on the lip
6 – On your chin
7 – The sides of your Collar bone
8 – Under your arms, below the armpit
9 – Top of the head
Alex said there are other locations as well, but as a beginner, this is all we should be concerned with for now.
Getting Started Tapping with Alex Ortner
After Alex Ortner explained the points on the body, we actually did a few rounds live on the podcast! Before we started, Alex explained the basics of how it works.
To get started, first you recite the setup phrase, which is a fill in the blank.
“Even though I have this _________.
I deeply and completely accept myself.”
Alex mentioned that some people find this a bit to “woo” and substitute the second part for something a bit more fitting for them. So, if you aren’t into that, maybe try to change it up.
I had Alex walk through a Tapping session for helping someone fall asleep, which you can follow along with. Speaking of falling asleep, Alex recommended that you implement this into a morning and evening routine to get the most from it. But, keep in mind that he said this is something that you can implement at any point throughout the day.
If you want to follow along with me for my first Tapping session, then be sure to pay attention around the 28-minute mark in the episode. That’s when we start setting it up to go through.
If you’re like me and want that guidance then be sure to check out their app, The Tapping Solution.
With the quarantine impacting everyone, having a technique like this can be the difference between pulling your hair out and moving your business forward. Whether you think it’s “woo woo” or not, I encourage you to at least try it and see if it helps you in some way. What’s the worst that could happen?
I’m going to keep bringing you ways to help make it through this tough time, so you can keep moving forward with a smile on your face and sales on your dashboard.

Some of things that Alison discusses in her podcast are really simple. But sometimes you need it laid out in these terms for it to just go in. And go in it does. Meaning you leave each episode full of confidence and aspiration with a check list of to do’s or things to try out. She shares information bombs that others in her position would never share (fear of giving away their secret sauce) and every step of the way you feel like she’s championing your specific journey. She is golden and this show should be in the library of everyone thinking or currently doing Ecommerce. Keep it up Alison! X

I find these podcasts useful, filled with good tips backed by her experience. She’s also very optimistic and makes me feel like I can do it! Which is why I want to get started! Ok Alison, this question is for you - I want to start selling online in an effort to fund my college education! Obviously I don’t have a lot of time, and more than that, I don’t know where to start lol! Do I create a Shopify store? Do I start selling on someone else’s site (and whose?!)? Loved this episode and how broken down and step by step the details were. Question for you: How do you decide on a business name and shop for an e-commerce store if you don’t have a niche? Or do you only recommend opening a store for those who do? In the beginning, you sold a lot of random things that didn’t relate to each other, so did you use third party selling websites to sell or did you start your own store and how do you do that without a specific product or niche?

- Hopeful:)by Polka. Lover from United States
So far I’m really excited about this podcast....and hoping it doesn’t all lead to what so many other podcasts I’ve listened to have, which is “I’ll tell you just enough to get you excited and start to believe you can do it, but to really start to change your life it’s time to pay for the membership/course and if you can’t afford it that’s just an excuse”. I’ve become a bit of a pessimist in the self-improvement journey while trying so hard to get started but not having much cash to do so. I’m that mom stuck living credit card payment to credit card payment which doesn’t exactly leave money to get started. I’m hoping this podcast is what I’ve been searching for to guide me on how to finally get something going that will bring hope and real change for my future. I love Allison and I have faith that she’s who can help me change my life!♥️

If you're looking to learn about building a successful online business, following your passion, and drive from a real person who practices what she preaches, this is the place! Alison is passionate about others successes- you can hear it in her voice. Against her norm of staying out of the spotlight and working behind the scenes Alison pushed past her fears of putting her face out there to follow her inner drive to teach others how she has been uber successful in several online businesses. She is still active in maintaining several online businesses and has taught me (and thousands more) how to build our own businesses. She is unselfish and wants success for all (and teaches how to do it without going into debt!). She gives so much to help others build their own dreams. Alison is the first mentor that I have found that doesn't hold back in sharing each piece to the complicated puzzle of successful business practices from idea to distribution to customer care. She doesn't promise magical overnight success- but gives you the keys you need and reminds you that your success depends on your dedication and hard work. I can't wait to see what her future episodes bring. Thanks Alison, for overdelivering yet again.

I have been in her course since May 2018 & have watched her course get better & better. That’s because she’s constantly adding to it. The best part about all of this is that Alison is genuine. She really wants to see her students succeed. This podcast is just another way to encourage us & all of you at the same time. - Alison Prince WALKS THE WALK Like No Other Person I Knowby Supreme Dragon Slayer 69 from United States
Full Disclosure. I met Alison and her amazing family just a few years ago and in that time I have witnessed an incredibly humble person step into even more of her greatness. This is someone who chases Impact over Significance in everything she does. In a world where most “big marketing gurus” who just yell louder to be heard and rely mostly on manufacturing celebrity to become a house hold name... Alison has been actually walking the walk for decades. She is family focused. She is heart centered. But make no mistake. She is one of the most BRILLIANT Marketers and Business Builders in the world. She had proven herself time and time again on her multiple businesses in multiple niches. All. From. The. Ground. Up. So yes. I know her. Which makes me qualified to write this review bc if you do have an opportunity to ever meet her in real life, feel good knowing she is the same in real life as she is on this podcast. Dave

- So happy Alison finally is releasing a podcast!by Arushi-315 from United States
So ready to listen to all these episodes.
Welcome to today's podcast. Before we get started, how you doing navigating this new normal? It's kind of a little bit different, right? The other day, I was looking in what is called the secret trend generator. I developed that a little while ago to figure out what is trending out there in the online world, and it shows me all of the top-selling products. And, guess what came up. Face masks. Never in a million years would I have ever thought that face masks would be on the trending list. But I guess I never thought that we'd have a shortage of toilet paper either. I sometimes feel like I'm living in this really weird sci-fi movie. And I know we're all trying to navigate through this new normal in our businesses, as parents, as human beings, and we're all trying to find this new balance. Like getting used to wearing masks. Here in Puerto Rico, if we don't have a mask on, it kind of is like, "No mask, no service." The stores will not serve you if you do not have a mask on. They won't even let you in the store. And, another thing that is... we're trying to navigate through is to remember what day it is. I mean, with the kids at home every single day, it kind of feels like Saturday all the time. And, you know, I kind of giggle about it, but it can be heavy to hold all these new changes that are happening.
I know they're happening with me, they're happening with you, so in this episode, I decided to bring in a Tapping expert to help us navigate through the changes that we are going through, to help with stress, anxiety, clarity. Now, before I start, I'm not gonna lie. The first time I heard about Tapping, it was a little bit of a unique stretch for me. It was a little bit out of the normal, and it honestly... like I was super confused about what Tapping was, but at the Brendon Burchard mastermind that I went to a couple of months ago, I got to meet the co-owner and his sweet wife, and it completely opened my mind up to Tapping and knew that I had to bring this in, and show you more about what it is. So, in this episode, I've got Alex Ortner, telling exactly how the Tapping solution benefits us. And he walks us through specific examples. They have had over 3 million people attend their Tapping summit. They have an app with free Tapping meditations that have had over 1.5 million downloads, and they are growing faster than ever because of the results. They are getting their students. I knew this was an opportunity that I couldn't miss out on teaching you showing you going through this Tapping process with you. So get ready for this episode because we're going to tap together.

Alright, so let's dive into it. I'm going to ask you the first question. Before we get into learning about the Tapping technique. Why should entrepreneurs know This technique? Yeah,
Alex Ortner 4:02
good question. I know that people want to know why this weird Tapping thing, why should we be doing this as an entrepreneur? And I think it really comes down to and especially this in this climate right now is, you know, how do we control our emotions? How do we control our mindset? How do we control our habits and our belief systems, as entrepreneurs? Because, you know, if anything, the current climate with what's going on with challenges is just, you know, a bigger example of what we have to do as entrepreneurs on a regular basis. How do we deal with the challenges that go on in your head? How do we deal with anxiety? How do we deal with the self-doubt that we have the fears of rejection? I know, you know, from coaching entrepreneurs, it's so many entrepreneurs want to grow their business, but they're afraid to put themselves out there. They're afraid if they have a business where they're going to be the voice or be a leader in some way. They're afraid to do that. Or they're afraid that they're going to do it and then fail. Right and so So many people are always working to improve themselves and grow their business. But if you don't have the mindset, right to be an entrepreneur, you just limit yourself. And so really what Tapping does, it's a technique that allows us to calm our emotions down to get more centered. And it allows us to actually access all of our resources. So really quick explanation. Our brain has, you know, the newer part of our brain and the older part of our brain, the older part of our brain being the limbic system, the amygdala in our brain. And anytime our amygdala is being triggered, whether that's by everyday stress, anxiety, whatever it may be, what happens is our prefrontal cortex, the front part of our brain actually goes offline, we're not able to make decisions as clearly, we're not able to think as clearly because we are triggered by that amygdala, which is very much the survival part of our brain. Now, it's been there for thousands of years for very good reason. You think thousands of years ago, you're kind of walking in the tall grass, some little thing moves, and you react unconsciously, and you run away, and you survive. Now, if you had the modern brain now back then of saying, Oh, I'm, you know, I'm going to be happy, everything's fine. No, there's no Tiger in the tall grass there, I'm going to think positively. Guess what, you died, you were eaten by the tiger, you didn't survive. And so that old part of our brain really served us back then, in allowing us to survive and to stay safe. But nowadays, it constantly limits us and that, hey, we want to move forward and build a business know a little bit of anxiety, a little bit of stress triggers us know, that's not safe. Oh, if I try to do this, what's my family gonna think of me? Or how am I going to be rejected? No, that's not safe. So we're constantly holding ourselves back because of this old part of our brain, the amygdala, where what we really want to be accessing is the prefrontal cortex, the new part of our brain. Now with Tapping, it's a technique that we use to literally calm down that part of the brain and let it know it's safe. And when we can do that, it allows us to actually do that. The things that we want to do and be, you know, the fearless entrepreneurs that we want to be on a regular basis.
Yeah, the old part of our brain stops us from doing so much that we want to self-doubt. All that stuff that comes into our thoughts. Alright, so talk to me a little bit more. Tapping What?
Alex Ortner 7:19
Tapping not tap dancing.
tap shoes, what is Tapping?
Alex Ortner 7:25
So Tapping is literally Tapping on different parts of the body, different energy meridians of the body. And it's something that I know like, It's weird. I remember my brother first started this business for us the Tapping solution that we've had for about 13 years. And he left what I thought was a much more reasonable business at the time, we were flipping houses, we in a period of five years, we flipped about 100 houses. And he left that business during 2007 when the market was crashing and started this thing around Tapping. I was like, What is this weird thing that you're doing? Like, why are you doing this? But the reason you know, but we do it again to call the ambulance. So what we did is it's literally Tapping the different energy meridians of the body. And what it does is when we tap on those spots while focusing on whatever problem that we're dealing with, it sends a calming signal to that middle of the brain, letting it know that it's safe, give you an idea. There's so much science and research behind it. There wasn't 30 years ago for a long time, people were just passing it along, because they were like, hey, this works. I'm going to tell you about it. But it was this weird thing. Now, especially over the last 5-10 years, there's been so many research studies around what how it's working, and what specifically it's doing, which is where we got all the science from the amygdala. We've seen brain scans that show you know, before and after how the brain changes.
But so when we tap on these points, it sends that calming signal to the amygdala, the brain, letting it know that it's safe. One example research study around stress. And so they took three different people, three different groups. One ended up having no treatment at all. So they actually went to a room and did nothing. Another one did talk therapy, and another one did Tapping. Now the group that did nothing in the group that did talk therapy, their cortisol levels, which is typically the hormone that measures stress in the body did not change, or I should say, went down at the regular rate. So doing nothing and talk therapy, same reduction rate, together, when you do the Tapping, it had a much higher reduction in the cortisol levels, so much so that when they actually did the research studies, the person running a guy by the name of Dawson church was getting really frustrated going, why aren't I getting the results back? And he said that they kept going back to retest because they couldn't understand how the cortisol levels were dropping so quickly. And that was the original study, they just redid it again to test the results. And this time, they had one group that was actually looking there in a room reading magazines, and not surprisingly, it went up by 2%. So that's kind of an indication of where we are right now that when people are sitting there, we're looking at the news, and you know, paying attention to all this stressful stuff in the world. That those stories all levels go up.
I was surprised. It's only 2%. I would think it would be more.
Alex Ortner 10:05
You'd think, but they were reading a magazine. So that might have been in is not during this time right now, if you're sitting there on the phone, looking at the news, it probably would go up higher. The group that did talk therapy did not change. The group that was doing Tapping, the cortisol levels went down by 48% faster than those other two groups. And so essentially, again, the science and research is showing that when we do this Tapping, it lowers the cortisol levels, it changes the hormones in our body, and it literally rewires the way our brain and body reacts to external stimulus, because a lot of what we do in life is reacting to what's going on. So you look at the current situation and some people are freaking out, my business is going to crash. What do I do? So all these emotions flooding, and what we can do is, number one, calm that down. And number two actually rewire our brains to react differently. So when things come up that are stressful They no longer trigger us in the same way. And that allows us as entrepreneurs to react differently to the stimulus and our business of, hey, this employee is upset about something or, hey, I'm getting these customer service emails and people are complaining, oh my god, what do I do? You know, there's so many different things that we have to react to as entrepreneurs. And being able to be level headed and calm is so critically important to be able to find and make the right decisions to move our business forward in the direction we want.
Okay, so you were Tapping earlier. And for the podcast listeners that couldn't see it, you were Tapping on your forehead,
Alex Ortner 11:34
right? So I'll go through all the different points, right, there are nine basic points, we start off on the karate chop point. So for those listening, just picture if you are going to, you know karate chop a board, it's the side of the hand. So it's the side of the hand, you start off Tapping there. I'll go through the points really quickly. And then I'll actually take you through what the process looks like. And we can actually do some Tapping because the really important thing about Tapping is I could tell you till I'm blue in the face about all the research studies and how amazing it is. is all about having experience for yourself when you can experience how it just calms you down and allows you to be more present and allows your brain to access different resources that weren't there before. Then you're like, oh, okay, well, this seems weird, but it works.a
Okay, so wait, before we get started, what can you explain the difference between what Tapping does and something like meditation?
Alex Ortner 12:19
Sure. Um, I mean, I don't know if I so one of the things that we are doing right now with our app is we're actually starting to do some research studies comparing other meditation apps like calm and headspace to our app. And we don't have those studies yet. But I would say that meditation does a lot of similar things. Except I'm trying to think of different different research studies. I mean, meditation has great benefit. Our app is actually a combination of Tapping in meditation. But I think that one of the things that it does is that is it's a lot more active of a technique. I think a lot of people struggle to meditate in that they just struggle to sit and calm themselves down and go through that process. Whereas Tapping is a lot more active, we're really connecting with a particular emotion that's going on. And through the Tapping itself. We're calming the amygdala down in a faster way than meditation does. And again, I don't have the research studies to show that there are so many, but I just, you know, I don't have them all memorized in terms of what they are all are. But I would guess that that would be one of the things is that through the Tapping points itself, it calms you down in a faster way. There are studies that show, you know, hey, is that the Tapping? Is that what we're saying? And it does show that the actual Tapping points when we tap on these points, makes the difference, just saying the things that we're doing and focusing on them does not do it alone, but Tapping itself actually causes that effect in the brain and body.
Awesome. Okay. Thank you. Thanks for explaining that.
Alex Ortner 13:47
I wish I had more of the resources on hand, but I can get back to on that let you know exactly what some of those differences are.
Okay, now let's dive into the nine points.
Alex Ortner 13:54
Great so that the nine points the first one is on the karate chop point. This is always where we start, and here's why. We'll start saying something but I'll go through the different points. The first one is karate chop point. The next one is the eyebrow point. So it's the inside of the eyebrow on either side, you can always have with one hand or both hands. The next one is on the side of the eye on the outside side of the eye. The next one is under the eye on either side, the next one is under the nose. So in between the nose and your lip, the next one is on your chin. So just underneath your lip on your chin, then the next one is the collarbone point. So if you find your collarbone, you go down an inch and outer niche and you tap right around there. Again, you can do both sides, one side, you know I've got a kids book, right teach kids these points with animal names. And this one, we just think about a gorilla just kind of thumping on her chest. Right. Next one is the under the arm point. It's about six inches under the armpit. It's a bra line for women. And you just tap there again you can do you know you can go across your body. You can do both. You can do one on on each side, whatever you prefer. And the last one is the top of the head. There's lots of different points here in the top of the head, you can just kind of move around a little bit. So those are the nine points that we do. There are additional points that you can do. But those are the nine basic ones that we do in the EFT Tapping process.
Okay, this is so fascinating. And I do love how you think the gorilla putting into it. Yeah, I'm very visual for
Alex Ortner 15:22
kids is really fun. So it's really quick. So it's hairy eyebrow point, Eagle Eye point, Lion cry point, Dragon a finer point, Wolf's chin point, gorilla point and bear hug point. Love it kids has all these fun little names that just allows them to connect more to what the points are. So they kind of open up to it and then they are more receptive to try and get out which kids are normally incredibly receptive to, to Tapping in. So it's really easy for them. It's always the adult skeptics that we have to talk about what they get. I mean, look, it's Tapping. It's weird. It's outside the normal paradigm. But it's one of those things that when you try it You see just how effective it is. And when you start using it routinely, when you can shift your emotion from, you know, not having something upset you and ruin your day, to being able to just have to let it go in five minutes. You're like, Okay, I need to use this. This needs to be in my, in my toolbox of things to do in my life.
Well, that's why I wanted to bring you honest, because the first time I heard about it, I was like, This is what? And I'm trying to keep an open mind about it. And I knew I needed to get to the bottom of it. So I'm so glad you're on explaining it. And I wonder like I understood all those visualizations that you said. So I think I'm more of the childish brain.
Alex Ortner 16:39
You know, what's really funny is that when we release my kids book, I had so many emails from parents from their from adults, saying, Oh, I now I understand the Tapping points, because we have several New York Times bestselling books, but you know, it is people buy a book, they don't always read a 200 page book to understand it. But with the kids book, they flip through in five minutes and like, Oh, I get this happening. Right, because it's been made simple for a kid. I know sometimes when we think about teaching something to a kid, adults understand it 10 times better because we're teaching it in a simple and easy to understand ways we can
love it. I love simple symbols the best.
Alex Ortner 17:15
Right, exactly. So once we know those nine points, we then have to learn the things that we say as we do it. So we always start off on the crunch point. And it's called the setup statement. The setup statement goes like this, even though and then we fill in the blank with whatever our problem is basically, what our most pressing issue is. So let's say, you know, right now, there's a lot of anxiety and stress around the Coronavirus and what's going to happen in the coming weeks. And so you might say, even though I have all this stress about what's going on in the world, so that's filling the blank, and then we would end it with in the the original thing was I love and accept myself anyway. Again, that's kind of an adapted because it feels a little too woowoo for people. Some people aren't comfortable or with Saying that they love and accept themselves anyway. So will a lot of times change it to I acknowledge and accept how I'm feeling, or just I acknowledge how I'm feeling because a lot of times, it's our inability to acknowledge how we're feeling that keeps us stuck in places and unable to release the emotions that keep us from moving forward. Or we may also use language like I choose to relax now and also make choices through this process. Let's say, even though I'm so stressed out about what's going on in the world, I choose to breathe and relax in this moment. Right. So that's the setup statement. And we always say the setup statement while Tapping three times in the chronic pain point. We could go through a Tapping process right now.
Okay, wait, can I just ask you, you say that say that statement three times while Tapping on the karate the outer part of your hands?
Alex Ortner 18:45
decided here? Yeah. Okay. So we do that three times. And then if you were Tapping on your own, you would go through all the different points with just a reminder phrase, that's the easiest way to do it. So if we were Tapping on what's going on in the world or anxiety, I might tap on that eyebrow point going all the way Anxiety there, you go to the side of the aisle and everything going on in the world, under the eye, all this anxiety, right? So you can just have a reminder phrase, or the other way to do it is just to talk through what you're feeling as if you were talking to a friend, a lot of times, you know, we call up a friend and we complain or we about what's going on, if people would actually just do the Tapping while they did that, while they were complaining about something. because really what we're doing is trying to focus in on what we're feeling while we tap so we can release the the anxiety, the energy of what's going on around that emotion.
Okay, so it doesn't matter where you're Tapping on your face for that reminder face
Alex Ortner 19:37
for the reminder will will we go through the process, so we go like I outlined, you know, eyebrow point side of the eye under the eye, under the nose, under the mouth, collarbone point under the arm, top of the head, and then we just keep going through that would be one round. But a lot of times when we tap, we'll we'll keep going through and doing multiple rounds until we're at a point where we feel more comfortable. We also always before we start, we'll calibrate how we're feeling on scale of zero to 10. Because one of the things that happens a lot is, you know, we'll go to tap with somebody and they'll say, Oh, I'm so angry about whatever this going on. And you tap and then after a few minutes, they go, Well, you know what, I was really angry and you're like, wait a sec, two minutes ago, you were fuming about something. And now you're not, you're not acknowledging that shift that just happened.
So we always make sure to calibrate first on that scale of zero to 10, where 10 is like, this emotion is so intense, and zeros like No, I'm fine. No big deal. I'm not angry at all. And we also check in with our body because our emotions are not just in our head or emotions are felt in our body with something like anxiety. The breath is such an important place to check in because typically, breathing will be shallow and you won't be able to take those deep belly breaths you'll be it'll be shallow might be jagged. I know. You know, this last summer before I was going to go speak on stage in front of 5000 people for the first time in my life that many people I was Yeah, it was fun, but but anxiety comes up around Right in so I notice and I see my wife notice my breathing was very jagged. So I would go to take a deep breath in, and it was breathing out, it wasn't a smooth exhale, it was I don't know, it was just kind of came out because my mind was holding on to tension and pressure around that anxiety. And I wasn't even as aware, she kind of noticed that. And I tapped on that. So we noticed where we were, we feel these emotions in our body, a lot of times a lot of physical pain. So Tapping is really powerful for physical pain, because a lot of our pain is pressure that we hold in our body. You can think of for example, if you were to make a muscle and just kind of hold that muscle for a minute, and then hold it for two minutes and hold it as long as you can, when you let go, it would have hurt. And so what happens a lot of times in our bodies because we hold these emotions in our body, it actually creates physical pain in our body. So we have so many amazing stories literally they they blow my mind all the time. The stories we get somebody was like I have chronic back pain for 30 years or you know Sometimes we tap with people on stage and they go, I can't lift my arm above here just above, you know, being even all sudden, at the end of the Tapping, they're able to raise their hand above their head, like, well, how did this happen? It's because by releasing these emotions, releasing the tension, our body's able to move in heal itself in the way that you need to heal. And right now, it's so incredibly important to be using a technique like Tapping to boost our immune system to take care of our health. Because when we are in a state of stress or anxiety, our body is in the stress response. And it is wired to release certain hormones. It's wired, to not focus on healing, but instead focus on immediate survival thing. So you know, our blood goes to the arms and limbs like there's all these responses that happen because of stress. And so when we tap it actually can have a huge effect on physical health as well.
Okay, I love that analogy that you just said about holding it all in about arm like that just makes so much sense. Okay, now, the reminder phase. Let's go back to that. So you've done the setup statement three times. And then you go to the reminder phase, do you say the same thing over and over again?
Alex Ortner 23:08
You can. So one of one thing is that if you're doing it yourself, and for a really long time, we used to always just teach people how to do it. But we'd always your feedback of like, I gotta do it. I don't know what to say. In over the last couple of years, we really focused on guiding people in the process more, it's why we developed our app. It's why we put out a lot more videos on Facebook, different places that guide people, because they're always confused on what to say some people, you know, will connect with it easier. But like all the things in our life, we have a tougher time seeing our own challenges than other people do. Right? We always need other people to hold a mirror up to us. That's why we have coaches who can show us and go hey, this is what's going on for you that you might not be seen. But when people tap on by themselves, then they can just tune into the emotion like all this anxiety, and then you go through the points, all this anxiety side. Yeah, all this anxiety, all that all this anxiety. The point is to tune into what we're feeling. and tap through the different points and acknowledge it and allow it to decrease in the intensity.
Okay, so now you're saying team up with
Alex Ortner 24:07
someone? No, you can absolutely do it on your own. I'm just saying, if you're struggling to do it on your own, your way, especially initially, to kind of understand the cadence of how we do it is to, you know, check out a video on Facebook on YouTube, download our app, follow those meditations, it's always going to be easier to do that. Same with meditation. If I told you right now, hey, go meditate for 10 minutes and you've never done meditation, you're going to go sit there and be like, What do I do? Right? Whereas if you had a guided Tapping, meditate, guided meditation, you're going to be told what to do. You know, focus on the breath, and relax your breathing, notice your body, all these things that just allow us to understand how to do it better by doing it on our own, because I tap consistently on my own, I tap every morning. It's a part of my morning planning process, to always just acknowledge what I'm feeling in a day. And then actually Choose what different emotions that I want to have.
So typically, on any given day, I will choose energy and focus before I get into work, if I'm feeling something negative, I'll tap on it. If I'm not, I still do Tapping on choosing what I want to feel. And so I will just go through those points, Tapping on what I want to bring in. So typically, the Tapping will start off on the negative, and especially if we're at a five to a 10. on that scale, we're gonna want to tap on the negative once we get down below the five, that's when we start to make choices more on how we want to feel. So let's say we went through a few rounds, saying all these things I know is anxiety. I might then go, you know, I choose to relax in my body, I go inside of the eye, knowing that all is well under the eye can be called and focused under the nose, taking it one minute at a time, one day at a time. So I can make choices and just acknowledge what emotions that I want to feel in that moment. And for that day.
All right, how long does it around usually take or should it take?
Alex Ortner 25:54
I mean, it can take 30 seconds to go around in one round. Yeah, it's not long. I mean doing the setup statement will Take a little longer as you go, you know, save that a few times. But you can go from that to doing around in a minute. No, it only takes a couple minutes. I mean, all our Tapping meditations in our app are typically under 10 minutes.
And how many do you usually do per day?
Alex Ortner 26:16
Or per day? Uh huh. Well, so first off, I would say you use it when you need it. So if you are feeling like you can't focus, right, you're trying to be productive and you can't you can't get yourself focused or you're feeling angry or anxious or stressed or sad. All the emotions that we might feel in any given day, stop, tap, release it. So you can allow yourself to choose how you want to feel as opposed to having your day just totally thrown off by something you're feeling. Secondly, I think it's important to develop a habit if you can, Tapping every morning is really powerful, in that it allows us to it forces a habit of stopping to acknowledge our emotions, because so often we can just go through our life and it's not till all of them something happens, or the weekend comes and often we relaxing, but I didn't realize I was holding on to all that tension. Because we all stopped to actually notice what we're feeling. And we don't realize how much those emotions can limit our ability to, number one, enjoy our day and just be more productive in our day. So I always have a morning routine. And I always recommend an evening routine to before bed. Because again, so many challenges with insomnia with sleeping, because we're not able to release the things from the day, our brain is still, you know, running, we're still trying to solve problems, or we're just stressed and anxious about what's going to come up the next day or what's going to happen in the future. So doing in the morning to set the intention for the day, and then doing in the evening to relax and release the day and release those emotions. For me. Those are the two most powerful times in the day to tap morning and evening. Okay,
can you give me an example of your setup statement? If you can't fall asleep at night? What would you do?
Alex Ortner 27:57
Sure. So here's my question. Do you want to tap with me But something particular that you want to tap on, let me just give you a general global example. On Tapping for sleep.
Let's do general. But then I think we should do a Tapping session if you're okay with that. Yeah,
Alex Ortner 28:10
yeah. Great. So do you want to do a general one around what's going on right now in the world with?
Yeah, I can fall asleep really easy. I just know, like, my head. I'm not even hitting the pillow and I'm out. I just know that there's a lot of people, I've got some really good friends who cannot sleep, cannot sleep. I want to help him get a better night's rest.
Alex Ortner 28:31
Okay, so let's start by Tapping on the karate chop point. And what we'll do in this process is all say the statement and then you repeat after me. And anybody listening will repeat it will say it at the same time as you. Okay. Right. So Tapping on the karate chop point. And actually, let me just say really quickly before we keep going, super important to just check in with again, let's calibrate. So, if you're listening, you know, how difficult is it for you to sleep right now? Or how much is your mind racing on a level of zero to 10 So if you're really struggling to sleep, you might say I'm going to level nine, I just cannot slow down my brain just can't get myself to sleep or you feel that anxiety in your body. So really important to to connect with that. And also notice where you feel it in your body. So we'll keep going now, on the creditor point on the side of the hand, even though I'm struggling to sleep, even though I'm struggling to sleep, because I have so much anxiety right now, because I have so much anxiety right now, about everything going on in the world, about everything going on in the world. I acknowledge and accept what I'm feeling, acknowledge and accept what I'm feeling. Even though I'm struggling to sleep, even though I'm struggling to sleep, because I'm trying to solve all these problems, because I'm trying to solve all these problems and it's so overwhelming,
and it's so overwhelming.
I choose to breathe and relax in this moment. I choose to breathe and relax in this moment. The eyebrow point. There's so much going on right now.
There's so much going on right now.
side of the eye and it's so overwhelming. And it's so overwhelming. Under the I don't know what's going on from day to day. I don't know what's going on from day to day, under the nose. I don't know what to do with my business. I don't know what to do with my business. chinhoyi, I'm overwhelmed with my kids being home, I'm overwhelmed with my kids being home. Call on point, there's just so much going on. There's just so much going on. under the arm, there's so much uncertainty. There's so much uncertainty, top of the head, and my brain is trying to solve all these problems.
And my brain is trying to solve all these problems
are a point I acknowledge how I'm feeling,
acknowledge how I'm feeling.
And I choose to relax in this moment, and I choose to relax in this moment, under the eye knowing the answers will come. Knowing the answers will come under the nose one day at a time, one day at a time. Chain point. We're all working to solve this. We're all working to solve this one point. And there's so much good happening in the world. There's so much good happening in the world. under the arm, we'll all be okay. Well, I'll be okay. top of the head. There's lots of stress. There's lots of stress. I brought a point Okay, and that's okay. side of UI we've all been thrown off of our balance.
We've all been thrown off of our balance.
Alex Ortner 31:06
Vi our routine has gone out of whack. Our team has gone out of whack. Who knows, but I choose to relax in this moment. But I choose to relax in this moment. Chin point, knowing that we can get through this knowing that we can get through this PowerPoint, I can get through this. I can get through this. under the arm. I'm stronger than I know. I'm stronger than I know. top of the head. I'm more resilient than I realize I'm more resilient than I realized. I brought point but Now's not the time to solve this. And now's not the time sell this side of the eye. Now it's time to relax. Now it's time to relax under the eye and allow my brain and body to release and allow my brain and body to release under the nose all as well. All as well. Chin point I am safe. I am safe. cuddle point I choose to relax. I choose to relax under the arm one tap at a time. One tap at a time. And breathe more deeply in my body now, and breathe more deeply in my body now, just stop there and take a deep breath in and breathe out.
And again, we just want to check in. So whatever we were feeling before, if we were feeling stress, anxiety, if we were worrying about things about tomorrow, or stressing about things, just kind of check in and go, well, what's going on for that right now? are we coming up with different answers? are we allowing ourselves to relax? We measure on that zero to 10 scale. So if we read an eight before, maybe we're at a six, now we're at a four now and maybe it's gone up, maybe we're in an eight, we're at a nine because maybe something else came up. Maybe as we were doing it, we realized, you know what, I'm really worried about this. Because a lot of times what happens is, as we go through the Tapping, we get more clarity on what's really bothering us. Right? You've had a conversation with your spouse, you know, you're married as a mind where you're in the middle of an argument and, you know, 30 minutes in you realize what was really bothered, right? Yeah. And you were upset about something and you didn't realize and didn't know how to voice it. Right away. And now you realize, right, that happens a lot of times when we're Tapping, as we start off with one thing, and then we realize I, you know what, I'm just really worried about my employees right now, you know, I'm just worried about not having work, or you go, you know what I'm really, really worried that I'm not gonna have enough money right now. And so we get clarity on those things. And so sometimes it can go up a little bit, we get more clarity, we tap on those things, but most of the time, the stress or anxiety will go down, and we'll just feel a sense of peace, we'll feel some tingling in our body. And we'll just notice that things are a little bit different and that we can relax and allow ourselves to sleep. So what did you feel during that process as we are going to tap?
It helped me to realize where I'm personally at, right? I came in here I already had a couple meetings this morning. my to do list is ginormous, right? Because what do we do? We build to do lists all the time, right? Just having you say that and Tapping I was like, Alright, I got this, I can tackle this.
Alex Ortner 33:53
So you know, I've been I've been telling people they know us on Facebook Live and talking about all the different things we can do during This time during anytime a challenge, right? And I always say the number one thing you got to do is you got to calm it down. You got to calm down those underlying emotions because we are simply not as resourceful when we are under stress or anxiety. Well, what people don't realize is that, so I would look at anxiety level 10 is like a panic attack. Right. And I've heard of a lot of panic attacks happening right now. I mean, somebody sent us a thing, a friend of my brothers who had a panic attack in the middle of the night, the and she didn't realize how much she was taking in. She thought she was okay. She had a panic attack. And what most people don't realize is they live with a level of stress or anxiety and say, level six, and you're like, Oh, no, it's fine. But they don't realize that if they even just lowered that average to a four or three, how much calmer they would be, how much more resourceful their brain would be. Because when we have these things going on, it literally takes away resources away from our prefrontal cortex and our ability to think clearly. So we don't come up with the ideas and so how many Have you had a great idea in the shower? Right? So why is it
all the time because we're really relaxed and calm in the shower, we allow ourselves to relax. And we allow our brain to think freely. And often we have these amazing ideas. And so that's just an example of how when we allow that stress, that anxiety that worry, that sadness, to lower that our brain is able to think more clearly. Which is why, as an entrepreneur, I think it's so important that we do this on a regular basis, beginning of the day, do Tapping, get, you know, choose the emotion you want to have in the day release any any worry or anxiety you're feeling. And then at the end of the day, you've got to be able to relax and let go because as entrepreneurs, there's no checking out at five o'clock. Now. There's not no you're thinking about it, you know, in a wonderful way most of the time. A lot of times are a stress and anxiety around it. And so we want to be able to release that to sleep because again, then it spirals on. Oh, we can't sleep. The next day. We're tired. We're not able To be as productive, we were more stressed, more anxious, and we don't sit well again. So it kind of spiraled downward. We really want to make sure that we're spiraling upwards and taking care of our health becoming more resourceful, gaining clarity on decision making a lot of being an entrepreneur is about going. Okay. Let me get clear on what's going on right now. What's going to move the needle forward? What matters most in my business right? Now, let me get clear, and then move myself and my team forward in that direction. So with the Tapping, we can allow ourselves to calm down that amygdala, get clarity on what really matters most, and then take action to move forward.
Okay, how so I love the self guided, because if I got into this, I think I would stop right with the forehead and not know what to do. So where can they get these self guided Tapping resources.
Alex Ortner 36:46
The number one place is our Tapping solution app. You can get it on, you know, in the App Store on Apple or Google Play on Android. And it's free, you download it. There's so many free resources right now. So we created this whole Coronavirus section that has to deal with insomnia anxiety. We started recording sessions in there for kids. So I recorded a bunch of sessions for kids. So if you have kids, we've got under five, six to eight, nine to 1213 to 17, to help kids with all the stress and anxiety they're dealing with right now. I know you're like me, you've got two amazing daughters that are entrepreneurs, and you care a lot about kids and helping kids and during this time, right now, they're dealing with a lot, right? Yeah, they are.
Even though we're inside the house on lockdown the social media, right? It can bring them down real fast,
Alex Ortner 37:36
right? And it's super important for us as parents to know that we first need to tap and calm ourselves down, because our kids will react based on our energy. I know. I've heard so many stories of people being like, my kids are freaking out are so worried. The first thing I go is I go well, how are you reacting as a parent? Are you being called in? Or are you worried about it? Because my kids right now I tell you, you go ask my kids. They're not worried. I mean, because we're so calm in the house, we were really lucky. And we've got space here, I mean, an hour and a half from New York City. But there are people that are stuck in apartments, we got lots of space and have freedom. But I've made sure to stay calm with my kids and make sure to control the meaning that I'm giving to all this for them, just like I want to control the meaning for me, go okay, I could, what does this mean for me? Is this a good thing? How can I grow from this challenge? How can I contribute to the world, the meaning we give it is super important. And so you know, I work to control that meaning for myself and for my kids. So yeah, get anybody who wants to learn and be guided in this process. Just go download our Tapping solution app. And super easy. You know, there's intro videos to show you visually how to do it. And you can be doing it in 10 minutes without any without ever having known how to do before. That's amazing.
That's amazing. Okay, the next thing that I want to know is the book the kids book that you wrote, yes. What is that called?
Alex Ortner 38:54
The kids book is called gorilla thumps and barracks.
Is that on Amazon?
Alex Ortner 38:58
Yeah, it's on Amazon. Really cool thing. about the book is that any purchases of that book go to our foundation. So we started a foundation in 2012, after the Sandy Hook school shooting here, which is in my hometown of Newtown, Connecticut, and our foundation does work with trauma response. So Tapping is really powerful with trauma with PTSD. So we've got projects with veterans that we work with. We've done work in Rwanda with children, genocide survivors, we've done work in schools. So for example, in the Parkland school shooting happened in Florida. We sent a team down there that was working with first responders and students and things like that. And so we do a lot of trauma work there. And we also do work in schools. So for any elementary school, normally, I know everybody's at school right now. But normally we'll donate copies of my kids book to any elementary school to all the kids in the school, and we'll donate 500 bucks, thousand bucks, you know, wherever, to help kids to be able to be their best selves, right? Because kids are dealing with so much more stress and Anxiety and pressure. And I think we were as kids way back then, because of all the social media and all the pressure and just everything going on. And so yeah, so anybody who goes and picks up a copy of that book, just know that you are supporting our foundation, the work that we're doing.
That makes me love your company even more just okay. All right, social media. Speaking of social media, where can they find you to find out more information? If people are on Instagram or Facebook,
Alex Ortner 40:27
on Instagram, just look up the Tapping solution. That's our main handle on there, or you can look me up Alex ortner. I've got my Instagram on there as well. And on Facebook, you can look up the Tapping solution on there, a little newer to the Instagram world. Facebook, I think, you know, we've got something like 500,000 followers on there, and my brother who's always been the main speaker in our business has, like 1.2 million on their Instagrams newer to us, but I love being on Instagram. If you reach out to me and you message me on Instagram, I'll always respond to there and help in any way that I can.
That's awesome. Okay, one last question. Yeah, maybe it might spur others. But how many students have gone through this program?
Alex Ortner 41:07
How many students? Yeah, in terms of well, it's not necessarily a program for the students for schools, we give the books for free, I go and speak wherever I can, for free as well, I really try to go to communities that are underserved. I know there's a lot of schools that don't have resources to pay for speakers to come in or to get books for all the kids. And so I try to go to those communities first. To help them out. And we give the book we also do have a lot of resources for teachers. So on our Tapping solution, Foundation website, anybody who's a teacher, if you go there, you'll find there's an area for teachers where you'll actually get programs that will help you to actually do Tapping in the classroom. So lots of cool resources in there. And then also in the app. We do have a section in there that it's always free and unlocked for veterans, as well as for teachers. So any resources that we have Veterans and for teachers are always free. I'll also mention that right now, any first responders that are listening or if you know of any first responders, doctors, nurses, they can actually get a full six months free in our app entirely like with everything unlocked. So there's already, right now there's a ton of stuff unlocked in our app, there is a free and a paid level. But there's so much free stuff in there, especially right now. But for anybody who is a first responder, if you contact us through any of these channels, and just say, Hey, what's the page, you know, to get free access, I'll want to give you a link to that page. And we'll give you six months of access in our app, because we want to go and help all those people in hospitals, who are working so hard under so much pressure right now, to be able to be calm and balanced and help their immune system in case they're having to fight something themselves.
Okay, once again, you impress me even more with that. What a cool company that you have built.
Alex Ortner 42:53
Thank you. I appreciate that. No, we we, we really I can't say it's not that we really care about the work that we do. We're very busy. driven. We're a family owned company as myself, my brother and my sister, which I think is a rare thing in and of itself. And we don't kill each other all the time. But we, I think, though there was more of that in the early years now, you know, we get along so well and understand each other.
You tap through all those?
Alex Ortner 43:15
Well, you got to do your personal work. I mean, so many of the challenges we have in businesses with business partners is because of those things that come up for us individually. And the things especially we allow it to fester, just like our marriage. If you don't address those things and release those things, you can kind of build up resentment and frustration and all sudden, it breaks down a marriage or a business relationship.
Do you have a marriage section?
Alex Ortner 43:39
Um, is there a marriage section in the app? I don't know if there is right now. Okay. There's relationship stuff. There's other relationship stuff, I just don't know is particularly for marriage a lot. We're constantly adding new stuff in the app. The apps that have been out for about a year and a half, and we've had, I want to say we've had about one point 6 million plays now of our meditations through their adulation. Thank you, thank you. I think it's something like 300,000 plus downloads of the app. And right now, it's, you know, lots of downloads happening, you know, people are really looking for that resource to help them out. Which is awesome, because we love you know, what we do and be able to help people. And, and yeah, you know that we are really fun staff one thing about the app just like we were measuring just now, and zero to 10 scale, when you do the Tapping meditations in the app, you know, 30 seconds into it, you you measure yourself, see something comes up on the screen, and you move the scale from zero to 10. And then when you're done, it measures you again. So you have to see your progress in the app, and how it's doing, which is really cool too, because of the data that we get, for example, our anxiety meditation, which are which is our number one meditation in there, I think has had something like 200,000 plays, and on average has reduced anxiety by 48% in just nine minutes. So it's like, what the data is there it works. 200,000 plays a minute. And it's reported 48% reduction in anxiety. And now there are so many different Tapping meditations on so many different topics in
changing the world
Alex Ortner 45:09
trying to write well, we're all doing our part one day at a time.
That's right. Well, Alex, thank you so much for your time. I know this is so needed right now. It is the Tapping the solution app. Go download it for the free trial. Is it a trial period?
Alex Ortner 45:23
Oh, well, there's a ton of stuff on locked in there period. So there's a ton of free stuff, especially now with all the Coronavirus collection there. There is also if you want to try the full app, there is a free trial on there, which we're just actually releasing now. It's always been, you can either pay for monthly or yearly. We've just been releasing a free trial setup, which may or may not show for everybody right now because we're kind of testing it out. And we will be released for everybody shortly. But things in an app take a lot longer to develop. They do want a website. So for any of you who have been doing web stuff for years, like I have, you know, 13 years where you can do things in a quick period of time and AP tests. So much longer to roll things out into
Alex Ortner 46:03
different story altogether totally different, you know, things that you use for sending emails, push notifications, it's been a really fun learning process on how to roll out an app.
Awesome. Well, again, thank you so much for coming on. Go follow the Tapping solution on Instagram, download the app, and we'll see you guys later.
Alex Ortner 46:20
Thank you so much.
