What's It About…
I feel this need, this inner prompting, to share with you a bigger story that I haven't really shared online yet.
It's a story that sounds too good to be true, and maybe that's why I struggle with it.
I'm not fancy. I wasn't blessed with a brilliant mind or an eloquent way of speaking. I've been looked over, unheard, and sometimes, I just blend in. I'm not sure if I have any natural-born talents, as I feel pretty average. All the same, I think the only thing it takes for anyone to create their Because I Can lifestyle is a dream, a desire, and to not be afraid to get to work.
To give you some of what I have learned across all the businesses that I've run, I've found one common thread that is the key to making them successful. And I believe, that is to know how to market.
In this episode, I’ll be giving you a template to market your product.
Do you sell products or do you provide products that help change someone's lives (or do you want to)?
I never want you to sell your product just to make money. It doesn't work. I want you to market your product and sell the reason that your customer has to have whatever it is that you are offering.
Remember, marketing is the act of analyzing the market and understanding the needs in such a way that whatever product is launched, it sells itself.

00:00 I'm going to say that I think the only thing it takes is a dream and desire and to not be afraid to get to work. I was born with this deep feeling inside of me that I was meant to make other people's lives better, and I needed to figure out how I was gonna do that. In fact, I felt this stirring almost every day for as long as I can remember. It's like I have this feeling that I need to step into a role that God needs me to step into.

01:19 Welcome back to the second episode of "Because I Can" Life podcast. Okay, so I just recorded Episode One and now I'm sitting down to write Episode Two and I think I've rewritten it now at least six times and keep reading the versions with excitement and then fizzling down to say, "Oh, that's not the right one." I have so many thoughts running through my brain right now that it's kind of feeling like a circus with multiple acts happening. You know, the three-ring circus, each act has its own ring to perform and they're all going on at the same time. Yes, the rings are the tabs on my computer that are open, and each tab has its own story and they're all exploding from my brain at the same time. And I'm not sure if it's as entertaining as a circus or at this point, just a circus.
02:11 And I think it's because I feel this need, this inner prompting to share with you a bigger story that I haven't really done online yet. It's a story that sounds too good to be true and maybe that's why I struggle with it. I'm not fancy. I wasn't blessed with a brilliant mind or an eloquent way of speaking. I've been looked over on heard and sometimes I just blend in and I'm not sure if I have any naturally born talents as I feel pretty average. Now. I'm not saying this for pity, I'm saying this because I don't think that's what it takes. Those flashy, hugely gifted things to be able to do great things in this life. We all know some of the most unflashy people have risen up to be the great leaders of the world, but what I do think it takes, in fact, I'm going to say that I think the only thing it takes is a dream it desire and to not be afraid to get to work.
03:15 I was born with this deep feeling inside of me that I was meant to make other people's lives better and I needed to figure out how I was gonna do that. In fact, I felt this string almost every day for as long as I can remember. It's like I have this feeling that I need to step into a role that God needs me to step into. Have you ever felt that something inside of you that says there's something more and it's not that you don't love where you are in life and the people around you, but it's like there's something missing and you're striving to find it and maybe wonder a bit where you fit in and this thing called life. I feel like the journey that I have been on was for a purpose to fill this dream. In fact, the journey is still being created by seeing things a little bit more clearly than I did 20 years ago or even a year ago.
04:04 My dream of helping people has been fuzzy. Oh, how? I wish the Lord would have sent me a text or even I would have taken fax to know what the dream and told or to know what it looked like, but I'm only given step-by-step and I've realized that's how I learn. If I did get that so-called facts of what my life would look like, if I got it 10 years ago for what I was doing today, I probably would have freaked out. And so I think that's why I'm only given step-by-step. It's personally all I can handle and maybe are just like me. But you know, what I've found out is those little steps have actually given me the confidence that where I'm headed is in the right direction. It's all little by little. I can only imagine if I was running in a dead sprint to find out I was actually going in the wrong direction at the whole time.
05:01 Now back to my dream of helping people. That's pretty vague, right? I mean, tying someone's shoes or carrying someone's groceries falls into the category of helping someone. Right? So I had to figure out what that meant and how I was gonna fit into this huge broad range. Now I've had experiences that were showing me what that meant, but I don't think I really understood it until this moment really helped me to find what it meant for me to help people. A friend came up to me and said, Alison, I have to decide if I'm going to buy a life-saving EpiPen for my son who's violently allergic to peanuts or FES. Further going into the heavy black hole of debt. I'm not even sure I have enough credit on my credit cards to pay for it. Now. She obviously found a way to get the EpiPen, but was so frustrated about the struggles of one more necessary thing that she had to buy just for survival.
06:07 She was living credit card payment to credit card payment because she never even had enough to make the paycheck to paycheck. Life ends meet. She is coupons shopped at garage sales, skipped family vacations, and didn't even have a cell phone and it still wasn't enough for her and this was so draining for her. Dee after Dee and I could feel the weight of the world crashing down on her. That was the moment that I decided that I needed to help her make money and that is what my dream of helping people was defined as. I was going to help people make money so that they could lighten their load. Where buying an EpiPen wasn't even a question. It could be bought in full with enough money to buy the child, a comfort stuffed animal that he could squeeze if the shot ever had to be given, because I've heard those things are so Beasley for kids, but the only thing wrong with his plan is I didn't know how to make money yet.
07:06 I was still trying to figure it out on my own. I was still in that paycheck to paycheck life. I had to figure this out first so that I could share it with others. And so I started and I learned and I went from $28,000 a year as a science teacher to building for multiple million-dollar businesses with four kids at my feet. Now. I don't say this to brag. Heaven helped me. It actually took me years to admit this out loud to anyone besides my husband and my accountant. Even my kids didn't know up until about two years ago. I just didn't tell anyone because I thought people would think what I had discovered was too good to be true, that it was just so big and I didn't think people would believe me that I had figured it out because I worked in my pajamas with four kids crawling on top of me.
08:02 Remember I was a school teacher making less than $30,000 a year at one point. So going to dealing with multiple millions, I was still in shock. My brain was still trying to process it all, and this was happening in multiple companies, so I don't take this number lightly. It was a few years ago or I was reminded why, why I was going on this journey and what my ultimate dream was. It wasn't for me. It was for me to study and immerse myself in the stuff for almost a decade and to make it a reality so that I could learn what it takes to show you what you need to do to make money as well. Maybe you're the one right now who are deciding on the EpiPen. Maybe you're the one who fills unseen, or maybe you're scared about your future. I totally get it. I tell you these numbers to show you that it is possible wherever you are today.
08:57 10 years ago, I wasn't exhausted but determined mama with a dream to help others. Now, your dream might be something else, but my dream is becoming more clear to me each day as it is to help you become confident in knowing that you can make money showing you that you can have the money that you want or you need and guiding you on how not distress over it every single day. And then once you have it knowing what to do with it, that's it. That's the dream. This is what I was meant to do and lights me up just saying it. So that's it. Yeah. You know, my goal, what my purpose is, is to show you how to make money. And I prefer to do it online. And up until now, most people online have seen me as the eCommerce experts selling physical products online because I've grown multiple successful shops online.
09:53 I've even taught my girls how to sell their first six figures when they were 10 and 13 and for the last two and a half years, I've been teaching thousands of my students how to make their first hundred thousand dollars in sells. And man, have we had fun in that group. And I truly believe that eCommerce is the fastest way to get people to make their first six figures online. But I wanted to offer you more on this podcast and just e-commerce tips because not only have I proven there are multiple ways that you can make money online, but I personally know hundreds and thousands of others who have done it as well. So I guess I'm going to do a big reveal right now. So instead of just being the eCommerce expert, I'm actually gonna say that I'm a marketing and business lifestyle expert. Yes, of marketing and business lifestyle expert that is so passionate about showing you how you can make money online.
10:50 So what does that even really mean? Well, it means that I actually really love showing you how to make money online by putting out fabulous products, whether they're physical, whether they're digital or even content-driven products into the world for your customers or your future customers, what they really want. It also means that the stuff that I'll be showing you can fit into your lifestyle. Now take note of this. This isn't the typical path to success. So I'll be redefining what that path looks like. It also means there are different ways to make money for my current students. It means that you're just getting it more. I'll be bringing in a bigger and better game for you each and every week. And you know, that's how I roll. Anyways. So to give you some of what I have learned across all the businesses that I've run, I've found one common thread that is the key to making them successful.
11:41 And I believe that is to know how to market. And I'll go into detail in another episode about the type of businesses that I have, but the running theme in every single one is marketing. Let's face it, even living life itself needs marketing. It's a skill that you have to learn both in business and parenting and even in your own head. Remember that time you had to tell your family that you were going to visit your great aunt in the boonies. Instead of going to Disneyland, you had to figure out a way to make it exciting for you and then convince your kids to have all the cool things that they were going to see and they got excited and had the best times of their lives with, come on a little bit of complaining, right? They're still kids, but they got to see the fun side that you were showing them.
12:36 That is what marketing is and here's the definition, is active analyzing the market or your kids and understanding their needs in such a way that whatever product or change of plans is launched, it sells itself. So let me say that again. It's the act of analyzing the market and understanding the needs in such a way that whenever a product is launched, it sells itself. If you learn to market well, you can sell anything including that less desirable trip with your kids. It's about how you stage it for their needs. Maybe it's by saying you get to go jump in a Lake and in Disneyland it's a two-hour line and it's a hundred degrees. So what I want you to do is get your brain thinking of what type of marketing your business is in. And if you're like, Whoa, Alison, I haven't even started. Well, you are in a perfect spot, my friend.
13:39 You've got to start somewhere. And the beginning is usually the best place to start. So here's a good example. Let's take Colgate toothbrushes for example. When Colgate comes out and does a commercial or an ad, they just don't say we've got a plastic stick with old fuzzies on the end. And some of you, I'm not pointing fingers. That's what you're selling, where you should be selling fresh breath, a clean mouth, non-stinky morning breath, right? Stop selling the product. Sell the dream. Now I want you to stop before you go into a deep pit of, Oh my gosh, Alison, I'm just selling earrings. It's not like I'm fixing world peace or getting rid of morning breath or just earrings. Maybe this isn't for me. Well, hold that thought we, no, no, no, no. Don't hold it. Kick it out of your head because that thought alone might be the simple thing.
14:36 This holding you back from success. You just don't sell. Insert your product here. You talk about what your product does. So here's the template that you can use. Do you sell products or do you provide products that help change someone's lives? So here's an example. Let's go back to the earrings. Do you sell earrings or do you provide a fast fix to helping a mom fill a frumpy as she runs out the door without makeup on or what have you teach yoga? Do you teach someone yoga or do you provide a way for a woman to feel beautiful and confident? Again, what about pillowcases? I know someone that sells pillowcases. Oh yeah, that would be me. Do ICL pellet cases or do I provide a way for people to dream better at night? What if you're like, Alison, I just give free recipes on my blog.
15:34 Okay, or do you help save moms from hours of trying to find recipes that really work and are not complicated? You see where I'm going with this? I never want you to sell your product to make money. It doesn't work. I want you to market your product and sell the reason that your customer has to have whatever it is that you are offering. Remember, marketing is the act of analyzing the market and understanding the needs in such a way that whatever product is launched, it sells itself. Okay, so who's ready to do that? Who's ready to, instead of looking at the earrings as metal and a hook, you're looking at it as a way to help a mom feel beautiful. Whatever your product is, leave a comment down below. I want to read them on how you are going to take your product and go from just selling it to marketing it. Show me the dream. I want to see it down below. All right. In the next episode, I'm going to talk about what I believe the number one reason that will stop people from being successful in their business. So tune in next time and I'll talk to you guys later.
