I can easily say that I’ve known today’s guest longer than any guest that’s been on the Because I Can Life podcast so far. In fact, no one in the world has known this teenpreneur longer than I have. I’m super excited to introduce you to my daughter and teenpreneur, Makayla Prince.
You might already know about her from reading this blog or seeing her on stage at Funnel Hacking Live in front of 5,500 people. By the way, I have no idea where she got her confidence because there is no way that I would be on stage at 19 years old in front of all those people. Nope.
I often tell the story of how her and her sister made 6-figures made their first 6-figures when they were just 10 and 13 respectively. But when she stood on stage in front of those 5,500 people, she shared that I’d been telling the story wrong the whole time.
Makayla's Story of Becoming a Teenpreneur
According to Makayla, the part I was getting wrong the whole time when I told this story was why she started the business. She said it wasn't her desire to be a teenpreneur at the time. As she puts it, “I was tricked”. You see, Makayla was in the habit of staying up all night reading and then sleeping until Noon. In the Prince family, this can only go on for so long.
As she tells it, I gave her 3 options.
– Move out of the house
– Do more chores
– Or start a business
She was 13, so she wasn’t moving out of the house and she wasn’t opting for more chores. That left one option – start a business. That’s why she says I tricked her into starting a business. Now, whether that was my intention or not, I’ll never tell.
Getting The First Sale
After I tell this story there is always someone who says “yea, that’s cool but I’m sure you built and ran the business for them”. As Makayla says here, that’s not the case. We just gave them the blueprint and then they executed on the whole thing.
Like you, their first step was finding the product. So, they did exactly what we teach in the 0-100k system and found a trending product that they had an interest in. For them it was scarves. Nothing revolutionary. It wasn’t new. It was an age-old product that was in style.
Once they had their products decided and their store built, they began reaching out to influencers using a lot of the same tips and tricks discussed in this episode. They didn’t have money to spend on ads so they had to bootstrap it from nothing. And once they got going in the outreach process, they found what surprises many people, influencers are actually real people. And most of the time they want to really help you out.
Challenges of Running a Business As a Teenpreneur
Remember, this wasn’t something that the girls only did on summer break. They had to fit in running the business with their day-to-day school schedule and social time with friends.
To make it all manageable they chunked their shipping into two main days Tuesday and Saturday. On those days they would pull out all the boxes, products, supplies, and get to packing. Batching the work like this made it possible for them to manage it all.
But, don’t think it was some magical adventure. It doesn't matter if you are a 13-year-old teenpreneur or a 30-year-old entrepreneur, they ran into the same challenges.
When they got a surge of orders on Black Friday, it was a great and equally scary moment. They had to figure out how they would manage to pack and ship all the orders without the customers getting upset. Good problems, but problems nonetheless. So, they bundled up (in their own scarves) and packed orders in the garage during the Utah winter.
She even got some HR experience at 13 years old. As she tells it, a friend came over twice to help them pack up orders and after each time they would get unhappy customer emails. The customers were complaining about receiving the wrong scarves. Makayla put the pieces together and saw the pattern of the errors happening only when he was there. So, she put on her big girl pants and let him know that he was “fired”. Of course, they were still friends.
Learning The Value of Money
So, what did a teenager and a pre-teen do with the money that was coming in from their 6-figure business? Well, maybe to their dislike, it went into a college fund. Not all of it though. To show them the value of money, they earned an hourly rate of $10, which isn’t too bad for a teenager. I sure know I wasn’t earning that much.
Underwear, school, housing, and food. After the age of 13, those were the things that Jared and I would pay for. Anything else that they wanted was on them to earn the money needed to purchase it.
As you can imagine, this doesn’t go over well when you tell your teenage child that anything that isn’t a necessity will have to be purchased by them. Teaching them to earn for the things they really wanted and then to protect, respect, or earn to replace their personal belongings came with a tad of resistance.
I’m not going to lie, there were many times when I questioned if I was doing the right thing or not. But, after going through this with both Makayla and Bridges, I know the importance of having them understand and value money is critical. The boys, who are 11 and 12 are about to go through this process. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it goes as good as it did with the girls.

Some of things that Alison discusses in her podcast are really simple. But sometimes you need it laid out in these terms for it to just go in. And go in it does. Meaning you leave each episode full of confidence and aspiration with a check list of to do’s or things to try out. She shares information bombs that others in her position would never share (fear of giving away their secret sauce) and every step of the way you feel like she’s championing your specific journey. She is golden and this show should be in the library of everyone thinking or currently doing Ecommerce. Keep it up Alison! X

I find these podcasts useful, filled with good tips backed by her experience. She’s also very optimistic and makes me feel like I can do it! Which is why I want to get started! Ok Alison, this question is for you - I want to start selling online in an effort to fund my college education! Obviously I don’t have a lot of time, and more than that, I don’t know where to start lol! Do I create a Shopify store? Do I start selling on someone else’s site (and whose?!)? Do I do a ClickFunnel thing?!

Loved this episode and how broken down and step by step the details were. Question for you: How do you decide on a business name and shop for an e-commerce store if you don’t have a niche? Or do you only recommend opening a store for those who do? In the beginning, you sold a lot of random things that didn’t relate to each other, so did you use third party selling websites to sell or did you start your own store and how do you do that without a specific product or niche?

- Hopeful:)by Polka. Lover from United States
So far I’m really excited about this podcast....and hoping it doesn’t all lead to what so many other podcasts I’ve listened to have, which is “I’ll tell you just enough to get you excited and start to believe you can do it, but to really start to change your life it’s time to pay for the membership/course and if you can’t afford it that’s just an excuse”. I’ve become a bit of a pessimist in the self-improvement journey while trying so hard to get started but not having much cash to do so. I’m that mom stuck living credit card payment to credit card payment which doesn’t exactly leave money to get started. I’m hoping this podcast is what I’ve been searching for to guide me on how to finally get something going that will bring hope and real change for my future. I love Allison and I have faith that she’s who can help me change my life!♥️

If you're looking to learn about building a successful online business, following your passion, and drive from a real person who practices what she preaches, this is the place! Alison is passionate about others successes- you can hear it in her voice. Against her norm of staying out of the spotlight and working behind the scenes Alison pushed past her fears of putting her face out there to follow her inner drive to teach others how she has been uber successful in several online businesses. She is still active in maintaining several online businesses and has taught me (and thousands more) how to build our own businesses. She is unselfish and wants success for all (and teaches how to do it without going into debt!). She gives so much to help others build their own dreams. Alison is the first mentor that I have found that doesn't hold back in sharing each piece to the complicated puzzle of successful business practices from idea to distribution to customer care. She doesn't promise magical overnight success- but gives you the keys you need and reminds you that your success depends on your dedication and hard work. I can't wait to see what her future episodes bring. Thanks Alison, for overdelivering yet again.

So happy Alison has launched this podcast. So refreshing to find parent entrepreneurs who are crushing it in business but at the same time being REAL, TRANSPARENT, and VULNERABLE about what it's really like to build a business with a family (without sacrificing the family)! So many families out there are struggling working 9-5 or more and still unable to provide for their families. Alison's journey is a tremendous inpiration that it doesn't have to be like that and as a Entrepeneur myself I'm looking forward to some solid advice and tips through this podcast. Thank you Alison!!

- Alison Prince WALKS THE WALK Like No Other Person I Knowby Supreme Dragon Slayer 69 from United States
Full Disclosure. I met Alison and her amazing family just a few years ago and in that time I have witnessed an incredibly humble person step into even more of her greatness. This is someone who chases Impact over Significance in everything she does. In a world where most “big marketing gurus” who just yell louder to be heard and rely mostly on manufacturing celebrity to become a house hold name... Alison has been actually walking the walk for decades. She is family focused. She is heart centered. But make no mistake. She is one of the most BRILLIANT Marketers and Business Builders in the world. She had proven herself time and time again on her multiple businesses in multiple niches. All. From. The. Ground. Up. So yes. I know her. Which makes me qualified to write this review bc if you do have an opportunity to ever meet her in real life, feel good knowing she is the same in real life as she is on this podcast. Dave

- So happy Alison finally is releasing a podcast!by Arushi-315 from United States
So ready to listen to all these episodes.
Like, one of my goals is to sell a million dollars and he's like, "What? Are you serious? That's crazy. There's no way you can do that." And it took me a second to realize that like, because I've been surrounded by all these entrepreneurs, and all these people have made a million dollars, that I can do it, and he hasn't had that opportunity. So it just seems like, such a huge goal. Like, it just seems so out there that it's hard to do. Like, me seeing all these people, it makes it more likely, like, makes it visible.

Hey, this is Alison. Welcome to today's episode. I actually have a very, very special guest that's about to come on. I've actually known this guest for 19 years. Now, you may be guessing who it is, but before I tell you, I just want to tell you kind of what's been going on here in Puerto Rico. So, we have been here for almost a year, and last week's episode, I dove in and I talked about things that we love here, things that drive us up the wall here, some of the things we miss. And of course, all the bazillion things that we absolutely love here on the island. But, on May 15th, we were planning to vacation back to Utah, and Jared last night, came up and said, "Allison, I don't have a good feeling about flying home or flying back to Utah. Going back to go see friends and family." And I said, "Why not?" And he said, "Something's wrong with our flight." And so, he called the airline, and lo and behold, his gut instinct was absolutely right. They had canceled the second half of our flight, and they forgot to tell us. So, come May 15th, we would have gotten to Florida, and then been stuck in Florida. So, he was trying to figure out what to do and work with an agent who was really sweet, and she gave us a couple of options. One was we need to wait till June to fly, and then the other one was that we needed to go to New York City, and we would have a nine-hour delay. And so, we were a little bit just kind of frustrated with the whole situation.
And I think it's because before, you book a flight and if... you know, you might be delayed here, an hour there, an hour. But, the airlines... like there's a lot of struggle going on. They've stopped flights, and, it's just been kind of a... a bit of a mess. And, I'm so glad that Jared listened to his gut. How many times... just thinking about him listening to his gut, it makes me think about how many times I've listened to my gut and leaned into it, whether it's in business, whether it's in parenting. And, how many times I haven't listened to that. And, it's been such a mess. So, just another reminder, listen to your gut, double check your airline times, especially right now. Now, we did find a solution. The airport did refund us, and then we found another flight, but it's actually going to leave a week earlier. So, the Prince family is in mad scramble right now, getting everything ready, so that we can go and vacation in Utah, and see friends, and family. We're pretty... pretty darn excited about... like really excited about that.
Okay, so today's guest I want to bring in here, because she has an amazing story. Now, like I told you before, I've known her for 19 years. And, I claim that my husband and I actually know her the best out of anybody out there, because she's my daughter. Now, I watched Makayla and she has dove into things that would have completely terrified me as a teenager. And so I want to talk to her about how she's done this. A lot of you heard the story about how she made her first six figures when she was 13 years old. And then just a few months ago, Russell Brunson asked her to stand on the stage at an event called funnel hacking live, and there were over 5000 people. This girl she doesn't have stage fright. I don't know where she got it from a weapon from me. And the confidence that she has in herself. And I've watched her grow. And this business has helped her to step into who she really wants to become. But I want her to tell her story the way that she sees it, and has lived it. And then I'm going to ask her some questions. So I want to introduce Makayla Prince. She is here and all her glory. Okay, so first question, Makayla,is
I always say that my daughter's made six figures when they were 10 and 13 years old, and I tell my story about it. But on the stage of funnel hacking live, you told everybody that I told the story wrong. So will you explain why I told the story wrong?
Of course. So as many of you guys know, I started my first visit. I was 13 years old. I was tricked into starting it now. tell you why. I was sleeping until noon. I was reading books till early in the morning all through the night, early in the morning, getting out of doing my chores, it was wonderful. I was enjoying my life hanging out with friends and doing everything I wanted to do. But my parents didn't like that. And that's where she gets it wrong is She tricked me into doing this. So she came up to me and my sister One morning, and they're like, okay, you have three options. You can either one move out of the house to do more chores, or three, start a business. Now, being 13, I wasn't going to move out of the house, and I wasn't going to do more chores because I was doing everything I could to get out of my chores. So that left me with starting a business. And she knew that I would pick that one. So she tricked me into starting it. But I mean, it's fine, because I get to meet cool people like you guys listening to this. So
and really, it's called parenting. You give your kids to not so fun choices. You know this you parents that are listening you do this thing too you give them to not so good choices and one really good choice. And that's the one they choose.
trickery. Yeah. And so we just did the whole, like the whole business setup process. We found products contact influencers, we build websites. And within our first nine months we had sold over $100,000. It was crazy. I didn't realize how much money that was. My mom had to sit me down and break it down and babysitting hours. It was way too many diapers that I wanted to change. So very grateful for that. You did that all through junior high and high school too. So there's the real story by Makayla.
She calls it trickery. I call it parenting. Okay, so Makayla, I have a lot of people asking me or telling me, Alison, you probably just did the business for them. Can you explain or go into detail? How much of the business I actually did for you?
My mom was actually busy building her own business. She didn't have time to build mine. So she gave us to give us a framework was like, Okay, here you go, if you need to help ask us questions, but you're doing this. So my sister and I, we actually did it all by ourselves with a little bit of help that they gave us.
Alright, so a lot of people are going to be asking, Mikayla, what did you sell? And then the second one, how did you know what to find to sell?
So we sold scarfs, the thing that goes around your neck, it's been around for like, a lot of years, like thousands and thousands of years. Yeah, we sold those. We were able to find out what was trending. And we picked whatever one we would close, like, what fit our personality-wise or whatever. So like, matched us and we'd be excited to sell it. And it was trending. So that's what we did.
Yeah. So earlier, Makayla talks about a framework. That's one of the steps in the framework is don't Go out there and get this brand new Shark Tank idea. You find what is trending. For those of you that can't see because we're actually doing a video record on this too. I mean, Kayla is standing on her toes pretending that she is taller than me right now with a two-inch platform shoe on, we're actually
the same height. So with a shoe than two inches taller.
Alright, I want you to go back to that very first cell. Talk about that very first cell and the feelings around it. How you were able to take this scarf and have the confidence or did you have the confidence in selling that first item? What were some of the thoughts that went through your head?
So that was actually pretty scary. We had to contact influencers to get our first cells and that was the scariest part contacting these people. Because building like building up to that process. It's pretty cool that we're actually building this thing and then it could work but like once you contact these influencers, you're like jumping off the edge of the cliff and it's actually happening and you're either gonna sink or float whatever that saying is, but it's like really you have to like, actually do stuff with it and it was so scary.
So when you had to contact these influencers, you were super scared about it, but when they commented back, how did that translate?
When I started I was super nervous contacting these influencers, but then once they got back to me, it was like that nervous excitement that you get, and oh, they were really nice. And they were really kind and they helped me build this process to getting my first sale.
So you're telling me the influencers are actually pretty nice people, right?
Yes, they aren't scary.
And we laugh about that because we actually, we know what it feels like you feel a little starstruck, you feel a little intimidated by them they have huge followings, even if they're huge followings. 2000. People 50,000 100,000. Sometimes that can feel a little paralyzing. And so for Mikayla, to go through this process To be able to reach out to these influencers, be able to work through those nerves, I believe and know that that helped her to build confidence to where she's at today just by asking questions. So if you're stuck in this area of Should I asked you to ask Makayla. What should they do? Ask? Yeah, ask ask. Okay. So now you've got the influencer to say, Yes, you've got cells coming in. Talk about when you made those cells. I know that you didn't work every single day or every single hour. How did you structure it out so that you could handle shipping out products to customers on time?
So we actually took two days out of the week to package and ship it was usually a Tuesday or Wednesday, and then a Saturday, we just sit down, crank them all out. And if we needed help, we contact our neighbors and pin pizza.
Yeah, you went through a lot of So that year. Alright, so how did you communicate that with your customers? Because a lot of customers are thinking, Wait, I want this next day. Why is it Wednesday? I ordered on Monday or Sunday? Why hasn't it shipped yet? So how are you able to communicate that with your customers?
So we just let them know ahead of time that we were teenagers and we have to go to school, we've got other things going on. And this isn't like our only top priority. So we had to work around our schedule, and we let them know that as they're ordering it,
and how did you let them like what was the strategic way? Literally, how did you let them know? Did you call them on the phone? Did you message
them? It was on the website? Yeah, we're on the website was it as they were checking out and the about section? Alright, so it sounds
like there's really a magical story of you getting your products up. You've got influences are saying yes, you call your neighbors over. You pay them in pizza, what were some of the struggles that you dealt with some or some of the frustrating things that you dealt with.
So our first platform A day. That was scary. But coming back to it, it was intense. We had tons and tons of orders and we didn't know how we were going to get all of them out in time. fast enough people not to yell at us and be like, Where’re our skies? Like they're gonna come down. But we would like we had to bring in a ton of our neighbors come help us and then we're always stressed about them, making sure they got it right. So we'd had to have to like double check as they were handing it over to us to package and ship it. So just like all of the orders all at once was a little scary and intimidating.
Now I remember as the mom they were doing this, this was in Utah in the cold winter and so it was in the garage and they would be wearing coats and hats and gloves.
We wrapped ourselves up in the scarf so we could not send out
high remember coats. Anyway, Okay, there you had an issue with one of your friends who kept getting the orders wrong. Tell everybody that's listening. When you have someone that you've hired, whether you pay him a pizza, or whether you pay them an actual money, how did you get through that process of telling them that they need to figure things out or they're out of there?
The friend, he's a fun kid, and we love him. But we gave him a couple of chances. Like the first time he came over and helped us we had him package and ship out products. And we kept getting a bunch of people saying like, oh, or scarf are wrong. Can we switch it out? Like we Yeah, of course. And then we invited him back the next time because we thought like, the first time is just like an accident, it'll be fine. He came back the second time to help us package and ship and after he helped us package and ship things, we kept getting more emails saying how they got the wrong answers wrong. scarfs and so one day, I had to go up to him and be like, hey, you're fired. You come messing up the scarves and like, We love you. We would still like you can still come over and hang out with us. But like, You're fired. You can't help Pack scarves anymore.
So how did you know it was him that was doing it?
Because it was he was the only one that had can't come over those two times that we need help packing. So it was him are mere Bridges and me and Bridges didn't get me that amount of emails like that before. So,
okay, so the big question is now, Mikayla, you and your sisters made quite a bit more than what you would have made babysitting. What did you do with all of that money? You know, Mom, you took it and you put it in a college fund. That's right. She wanted to buy a million gumballs with it. And I said, Nope, we're not going to do that. And so we did stick it into a college fun but what were the rules behind it? Like how much did you because we didn't take all of it and hide it in you. Okay, let's be clear with that. It is still her money. I didn't take her money. We just put it into a savings account for when she realized the value of Money, but they did get an hourly pay, so that they could handle $10 and figure out the value of $10. First, before they were getting hundreds or thousands of dollars, where they were buying the gumballs. We needed to make sure as parents that they could understand the value of $10.
Yeah, so we got paid $10 an hour. Also Fun fact, that cut us off at the age of 1312. Now, and we have to pay for all of our own stuff. We have to pay for all of the stuff we want. Our parents only pay for our underwear, school, housing and food. So everything else that does not fall into those categories is we pay for it by ourselves. So earning that $10 an hour helped us realize like, do we actually really want this to spend our $10 on or not?
Now as Makayla is saying this I have a funny story that reminded me of how this went as a parent. When we told them that they need to start paying for their own stuff. It didn't go very well. They thought that you
to go well, I guess I didn't know what to expect. It's the first time being a parent and doing this. And so I remember Bridges, the 10-year-old came upstairs, and she was with her friend playing around. I don't they're doing downstairs comes upstairs and her pants are ripped. And I said, Hey, what happened to your pants? And she said, Oh, my friend rip them. I said, Okay, that's interesting. And her friend went home. And so Bridges came up to me and said, Mom, I need new pants, my friend rip my pants. Can we go shopping? And I said, Yeah, we can absolutely go shopping. Grab your money. You're gonna pay for it. And she said, No, wait, no, no, no, no, Mom. I'm not doing that. I didn't rip my pants, my friend rip my pants. And so we got to have this great discussion on. If someone comes and ruin something in my house. I can't turn to my parents and ask them for money, I have to figure out either how to protect my stuff, right? respect my stuff, or I have to go out and I have to figure out how to create the money to replace that stuff. And that moment, I think was a very defining moment as a parent because she didn't like that answer. And I remember she was very proud of me and didn't talk to me for a good 24 hours and said, everybody else gets their stuff bought. Why are you doing this to me, mom? Why are you doing this to me? And as she started asking me that question, at first, I was like, oh, maybe I did make the wrong choice as a parent. But as the 24 hours kind of settled out, we had an amazing conversation about her being in charge of her things, and this power that she has inside of her. And so the next time the friend came over, I heard them talking downstairs and Bridges leaned over to her friend and said, Hey, I love you. I really love when you come over, but you can destroy my themes because I have to pay for them. And through this whole process, we have seen both Bridges and Makayla, start taking care of their stuff even more. So before we would see piles of laundry hidden in the back of their closets. Now, it's not in heaps of I mean, they're not perfect. They're teenagers, right? But more often than not, it's not in a big heap. In the corner, they're hung up, it's taken care of because they have learned that they need to start taking care or they need to buy their own the stuff that they want. And so that was a big learning opportunity for me as a mom to see my daughter's to go through that now. We're actually about to do that with the boys that are 11 and 12. Right now, finally, the girls have been waiting for the boys to have this opportunity for ever. Okay, so Next, Kayla, can you build this six-figure business? Now? If there are teens listening, right now, what are three tips that you can give to teenagers that want to start their own business?
Keep it simple. Don't go crazy. Find one product, stick to that one product until you are confident enough on that product. don't overwhelm yourself with finding 12 different things items like shirt hat pants, I don't over swarm overwhelm yourself with all of that. Just do it. Like, don't be afraid to actually do it. I've been doing Instagram lives and that was the scariest thing that I've ever done in my entire life. But if you just do it, it'll like efforts will multiply and it'll grow a lot faster and you're putting yourself out there and you will make the money. One of my favorite quotes is let yourself be bad enough long enough till you get good enough so you can get good enough. So you're gonna be bad the first million times you go do something Maybe not a million, hopefully a good buy for a million. But you're going to be bad the first dozen times you do it and your products, your pitches might not be the best, but you have to keep doing it long enough, and you will learn how to make them better. And just by doing it and allowing yourself to better you'll get good.
Alright, Caitlin, now I'm going to actually have you go a little bit further. And I want you ready for this? To give three tips to parents to be able to encourage their teens not to do it. So what was the defining factor where you're like, Okay, I realize my parents are tricking me, so called tricking whatever it's called parenting. What are the things that you like that we really did? So that you didn't walk out of there saying, I'm not going to do that? No way. You're forcing me to do this. What were some of the things that you could advise parents to do? That you really loved as a kid entrepreneur.
So looking back now, some of the things that I like, like that I realized helped me to most have a successful business. Is them actually cutting me off. Like, I know, no child is ever gonna like that No teen. No kid is ever gonna like that. Because it's hard and it's scary, but cutting us off. And it helps us, like throwing us into the deep end and we have to learn how to do it fast, and learn to do a good fast and if you don't, then we're just gonna be like, Oh, yeah, I'm trying. But we're not act like, we're not giving 100% like we're like if we did if we were cut off. So that's one. Support us with other crazy ideas we have. I was when my mom asked us which we wanted to do. I said solve world hunger. She's like, okay, that's a brilliant idea. How about we find a way to do something that's a bit more manageable but then can grow into that or whatever you want to do. So don't like shut down our crazy ideas that we have like so. Being world hunger, but help us find ways to accomplish the goals that we have. Well, not like it's not overwhelming and changing our days completely. And then don't do it for us. I know we want you to, I know that we will want you to and we'll ask you to do it for us. But don't it doesn't help us. And every child is going to not like that. I said that. But that's just how it is.
I love those. I really love those actually haven't heard those until now. I remember the whole thing about don't do it for us. There were some tears when you had customer service emails when you had packages to be shipped and you just didn't want to do it. But your dad and I always said no, this is your business. And you got over it. You did it. You shipped it out. So hearing you say that now. Yay. I'm glad we didn't step in and do that stuff for you. The next question that I want to ask you What Makayla is, what is it like to have parents that are entrepreneurs?
It's pretty crazy. I get to tag along with my mom to other business conferences that she goes to. And I get to meet some crazy cool people that I wouldn't normally met if I did not have entrepreneurial parents, like, I've met some cool people and they have also helped me realize what I want to do. What I want my future to look like and realize that I can make a million dollars if I wanted to. It's not that lofty of a goal, like seeing other people accomplish these things makes my goals seem more realistic. I like that you actually said that. I haven't I think
some of these answers I have never heard before and I love them that she's seeing she's surrounding herself with people that have similar goals to what she wants to do. So I do have one story Oh, storytime with Makayla.
So I have met this kid here in Puerto Rico and he is not an entrepreneur. He His family isn't an entrepreneur. And I was talking to him one time about one of the business conferences I've gone to and like some of the things that I've learned in the goals that I have. And he was like, I was like, one of my goals is to sell a million dollars. And he's like, What? Are you serious? That's crazy. There's no way you can do that. And it took me a second to realize that like, because I've been surrounded by all these entrepreneurs, and all these people have made a million dollars, that I can do it and he hasn't had the opportunity. So it just seems like such a huge goal. Like it just seems so out there that it's hard to do. Like, me seeing all these people. It makes it more likely like makes it visible.
So would you encourage parents to start inviting their children to business conferences?
Yes, so I can meet your kids.
Yeah, your kids Makayla and Bridges, they can all hang out.
Business conferences are full of adults. We need more children there and teams.
Okay. You were asked to speak on a huge stage 5050 500 I don't know the other months past 5000 ginormous came when you got up there. What were some of the thoughts going through your head you're talking to very successful business people. You are standing on a stage all of them are staring at you. What were some of the thoughts going through your head as you were walking from the back to the front now this is actually your second stage that you've stood on. One was, was it 3000? Oh, third stage. Stage. One was our own event called clam con last year, and then unlocking the secrets unlocking the secrets and then funnel hacking live so as you're preparing backstage in the green room to go on to these stages, what are some of the thoughts going through your head now?
I was excited but nervous like I was like, so unlocking the secrets I had to speak for a lot longer than I normally had it so I was worried like, was I going to be able to feel that time was I not wasn't gonna rush through it, like, all those thoughts are going through my brain. But then the coolest thing was that the funnel hacking live one that was like the biggest one that I've done. Wasn't that nervous near walking back to the green room, I was going up on stage with three other kids. So there are four of us walking up on there. And once like, so the way that it was laid out, we walked on the backstage, there's like a screen and the doors slid open. So the screen split in half, and we walked through the screen. And like walking through it with the kids, I felt like I was like a superhero. Like, the coolest feeling ever. And then standing up there while the other kids were sharing their stories, and their experiences, like, just like watching them share their stories in their light. Like it was so exciting for me. And then when it was my turn to share my stuff, all of my mom's business friends are up there and they're all blowing me kisses and screaming at me and yelling hungry. It was so fun.
Now, okay, I have to tell Okay, you've got the glory story of Makayla. But when Makayla was 12 years old, I remember her standing in front of probably 30 other 12 to 18 year olds at her church. She stood up there. And it was like she was trying to crawl inside of herself because she was so nervous about being in front of people. And to watch this journey of her gaining that confidence to be able to feel like a superhero on a stage has been mind blowing. And I know business has given her those self. And I know it's not everything, but it has given her a lot of the self confidence. And she goes out there and she learns how to talk to influencers, as she goes out there and she learns what her dreams are as she learns how to start communicating with people how to start taking pictures, how to start writing, and it's a step by step by step process that has helped her really define what she wants to do in life. Now, is it going to change? I guarantee it will. That's what life's about. You're constantly changing and rotating and learning and growing. But she has the bass so whatever she wants to do now, she knows how to make money from it. Because the process is the same, you get uncomfortable. You get out there, you offer value into the world, people like it, and they give you paper with a guy's face on it that you can redeem for the things that you want.
That was an interesting way to explain money. I liked it
like that. All right, let's go with it. Let's go with it. Okay, so let's wrap it up, Makayla. And tell me your favorite part of having your own business.
I have the coolest boss. You have the
coolest boss. Yeah. And that would be you. Exactly.
Okay, what else? I like being able to work on what I want to do. Like you there are ways to like there's some things you do have to do that you don't like to do. But you can hire a lot of things out and you can focus on the things that you want to do. And I am learning that right now. I'm learning how to hire things out. And so like that's the cool part is you can like you have a vision You can use that vision to change the world and you can influence so many people with your business even if it is selling scarfs Kayla, he
rocked it. Thank you for coming on today's podcast.
Thanks for inviting me in your office.
Alright, so I want to go over some of the key takeaways that Makayla brought in, just as a wrap up. Number one, it's okay to be scared. It's okay to be uncomfortable and move forward to get your dream number two, keep it simple. I say amen to that one very much. Number three, just start number four. be bad enough, be okay with being bad so that you have the opportunity to get good. Number five, this one makes my heart so happy. It's she was glad that her parents also known as me, cut her off so that she could learn the value of money. Number six support she's glad that we did support her but didn't do the work for her. Number seven is that she is so grateful that she has the coolest boss ever coming straight from a teenager's mouth. And then number eight, she's able to focus on her strengths, the things that she loves, and she's learning that she can hire out and stuff that she doesn't love. Alright, I hope you love that podcast episode. I cannot wait to listen to this when she and another 10 years to see her growth even in another three years. So if you are listening to this podcast right now, maybe you should go do an episode. Even if you don't have a podcast just recorded on your phone, do a mini podcast interview with your child so that you can compare now to where they will be in two to three years that would have been so fun if we would have been able to do that with Makayla at age 12 when she was just getting your feet wet and then at age 13, what would have been? So that's my challenge today for you is to go interview your child Ask them about entrepreneurship, see if it's right for them. I love entrepreneurship. This is where my happy is. And I'm so grateful that my children are getting to look at entrepreneurship. Now, are all my children going to be entrepreneurs? No, am I going to force it? No. But what I am going to teach is responsibility. And I'm going to teach that if they want to go out and get something they want to buy. It takes work. So our philosophy here and the prince house is work equals reward. You don't have to be an entrepreneur to do it. It helps a lot, entrepreneurs to do that. So parents get out there. teach your kids how to work, help them to be responsible. Maybe you guys can build a business together or on your own. Get out there. Put that money in your pocket or blocks and I'll see you next week. Bye.
