Or maybe something in between.

These 7 Influencers Tell You What Influencers Are Looking for From the Businesses Who Want to Work With Them

Sadie Sabin

Sadie says it’s all about the relationships – both with the brands and with the audience that will see those products.

Here were some of her tips on what influencers are looking for:

  • Build relationships with the influencers
  • Have a mutual understanding of what both parties can bring to the table
  • Trust the influencer to make decisions based on how their audience receives content
  • Don’t restrict the influencer's creativity in how they promote the brand’s product

Holly Homer

Holly views working with brands as a win-win when done right. If she can position the products properly in front of her audience, they will eat it up and look at her as the source of all the cool things. But, she says that most of the pitches never make it to her because they approach emailing the pitch all wrong.

Here were some of her tips on what influencers are looking for:

  • Send a super short personal note about what is in it for the influencer
  • In your email, detail how the product is a perfect fit for their community

Savanah Poulsen

Savannah likes to work with brands most often on an affiliate basis as she thinks this provides a way for everyone to benefit the most and leads to a long-term relationship.

Here are some of her tips on what influencers are looking for:

  • Show that you care and respect the opportunity to work together
  • It’s not a one-person-has-the-upper-hand scenario
  • Have clean and open communication as you work out the details
  • Consider each other’s feedback during the process

Shelley Coates

Shelley is actually a business partner of mine for HowDoesShe. We’ve had that business for over 10 years and that business alone has pushed 10’s of million in sales for brands. The amount of followers we have and the length of time that we’ve been in this influencer world, gives us some unique perspectives on what works and what doesn’t.

Here are some of her tips on what influencers are looking for:

  • Make sure it’s a good match with the influencer’s audience
  • Sell the vision of the product and how it will help the audience
  • Send samples with no strings attached, then follow up in a week or so
  • Prove your product and commission structure has great potential

Camille Beckstrand

With almost 10 years in the industry, Camille has some great insights to share. So take out the pen and paper and jot these down in your notebook.

Here are some of her tips on what influencers are looking for:

  • Interact with the brands content on social media before and after the pitch
  • Do you research before you reach out so you understand what they like
  • Make it a win-win-win – a win for the brand, the influencer, and the audience

Ashley Johnston

Like most influencers, Ashley gets pitched by a lot of brands, and she just can’t say yes to everything. But there are some things that she has found that make the best win-win relationship for both the brand and the influencer.

Here are some of her tips on what influencers are looking for:

  • Make sure your products mesh well with the influencer’s audience
  • Make sure your website and visual branding is appealing
  • Make sure you have great images of the products
  • Make the email personalized, short, sweet, and to the point.

Camille Walker

For Camille, it’s all about clarity and trust from the beginning of the relationship with a brand. If you can clearly convey what you need and show some trust in the influencer, it can turn into a long-term relationship.

Here are some of her tips on what influencers are looking for:

  • Give clear expectations around the campaign
  • Offer to have a conversation to discuss this in more detail
  • Give the influencer creative liberty to make the best judgment for their audience
  • Have your ducks in a row on what you want from the influencer to limit back and forth

If you implement the insights shared by these 7 wonderful ladies, then your business will be in a whole new place 6 months from now. The power of leveraging influencers is an amazing thing and something I recommend to anyone with an online store, whether you are just getting started or already selling millions.
